Initial Lyrics

the Best Laid Plans O’ Mice and Men . . .

Five years ago, almost exactly to this day, I bought Poco a Poco, a 1972 Columbia 30 sloop. The original idea was to learn the in’s and out’s of maintaining and running the systems on a cruising level sailboat. Then, when it was retirement time, move up to a larger and ‘fancier’ boat and sail into the sunset.

With the economy tanking, and with more than a little help from my University administration, that cruising idea happened sooner rather than later. So here we are, Poco and crew, trying hard to catch up and get moving.

this web site will be about a number of things.

it’s about Poco and it’s crew; Bear, Billy, Roadtrip, Santa, Sebastian, and Asimov P. Jorgenschmidt, and their nominal captain, Trees. It’s about what we all do and see and how we view the world around us.

it’s about how the crew and I see various things that seem to have nothing to do with Poco and her destiny.

it’s about how the crew and I interact with Poco, her needs, and the ocean.

In it’s essence, it is about the verbs and nouns and adverbs and adjectives our lives write. With each action and each thought each of us writes our unique and infinitesimal poem that is our life.

This then is a small bit of Poco’s Poem.

The first stanza begins in Baja California. Ensenada, to be exact. . . .
